Champions League new format

The 2024/25 UEFA Champions League will introduce a revamped format with 36 teams playing in a single league, instead of traditional groups. Each team faces eight different opponents, increasing the number of matches and competition. The top eight teams automatically qualify for the knockout stages, while teams ranked 9th to 24th enter a play-off round.

The Champions League group stage kicks off in mid-September 2024 and runs through late January 2025:

  • Matchday 2: 1/2 October 2024
  • Matchday 3: 22/23 October 2024
  • Matchday 4: 5/6 November 2024
  • Matchday 5: 26/27 November 2024
  • Matchday 6: 10/11 December 2024

  • Matchday 8: 29 January 2025

The knockout stages start in February 2025, with the final scheduled for the end of May:

  • Semi-finals: 29/30 April & 6/7 May 2025
